A large national boat manufacturer approached Ace Anodizing for the anodizing their rails, gates, bimini frames and trim pieces for high end pontoon boats and water craft. The components composed of extruded 6063 welded aluminum tube, measured up to 144” in length and 42″ high. In addition to a clear anodized finish they wanted to offer an upgrade to a black anodized finish. Special requirements called for no visible rack marks or run off, meaning that all parts must have a uniform unobstructed finish. In addition, parts needed to be packed in kits,welds needed to be uniform in finish and parts needed to be free of any residue or entrapped fluids.

We decided on a two-step electrolytic anodizing process with integral coloring and an architectural seal to protect the finish, provide lightfast characteristics and corrosion resistance in a marine environment. The parts are highly cosmetic as a focal piece to the style and design of the boats. Tooling was fabricated and parts were processed in three days in order to meet the deadline for a dealer show. The product is in production and Ace is set up to run 100 kits per day in black or clear.
